The records range from 1922 to 1979 but are strongest covering the time periods 1937-1950 and 1967-1972. They are separated into four series: Administrative, Activities, Reports, and Photographic Materials. Activities documents camper programs from 1967 to 1972. The Reports series gives excellent, though scattered, information on the functioning of the camp.

The University of Michigan Fresh Air Camp was started in 1921 by Lewis Reimann and Thomas Evans with the goal of providing outdoor experience to underprivileged, mostly urban youth.
